How do I obtain a Burning Permit ?

BURN PERMIT GUIDELINES

ALL OUTSIDE BURNING in the Town of Hampton requires a burn permit to be issued.  Application shall be made either in person or by calling the fire department at 926-3316. Burns shall be located a minimum of 50 feet away from buildings, fences, power lines, etc.  The burn site will be inspected by Hampton Fire & Rescue prior to the issuance of a permit.  If your fire is deemed a nuisance, you may be required to extinguish it immediately.  As stated on the permit, the sole liability for damages or other costs (including extinguishing) caused by your fire are your responsibility. The permittee must be at least 18 years old and the legal landowner, or have the landowner’s written approval.  The written approval must be submitted to receive a permit. The permittee must have proper suppression equipment to maintain control of the fire at all times.

Fires are not allowed on the beach in Hampton.

The Fire Law Brochure has the specific rules regarding outside burning.

For more information you can call 926-3316 or go to the New Hampshire Division of Forests and Lands Forest Protection Bureau website at:

Why does the fire engine respond with the ambulance ?

Fire engines are dispatched on emergency medical calls that require advanced life support, motor vehicle accidents and calls in which additional personnel are needed to move the patient into the ambulance.  This allows for sufficient personnel on scene to administer the advanced life support care and treatment that is necessary.  By sending the fire engine we are using the most cost efficient method of service delivery because it allows the firefighters to respond to the medical call, provide the assistance needed, and then immediately be available for another call.  If they were to use a different vehicle they would have to return to the fire station first causing increase response times and a longer wait for those who need help.
